Background of Invention:

It is well known that when a vehicle is driven in inclement weather such as during snow fall or freezing rain, the windshield wiper can become coated or clogged with snow and ice.

Clogging the windshield wiper blades reduces their wiping efficiency and hence their capacity to adequately clear the window. Consequently, safety is compromised by obstruction of the vision through the windshield

In such instances vehicle operators must resort to periodically stopping the vehicle and stepping out of the latter to dislodge snow or ice accumulations from the blades prior to proceeding.

Some statistics to consider:

Article 281.1 – visibility: persons driving a vehicle with windows not cleared of all materials that can block visibility are committing an infraction and are liable to a fine of $100 to $200 dollars.

1987 - MUC Police Public Affairs Dept. reports giving out violations to 978 motorists for driving with slush or snow on their windows, particularly the windshield.

1986 – Regie D’Assurance reports on traffic accidents throughout the province of Quebec. Poor windshield visibility caused 1014 accidents resulting in each case in over $250 dollars in damage, 1 was fatal, 20 were considered serious injuries.
